Our Mandate
“Advocating active participation in environmental management driven by Aboriginal communities and Professionals in order to promote, enhance and foster pro-active environmental solutions.”
The Aboriginal Environmental Leadership Circle is an Aboriginal, non-profit organization which seeks promote Aboriginal communities’ paramount interests in lands and the environment. The AELC will promote and encourage methods in which community knowledge and western science, if managed and respected, can create an optimal environmental management system. AELC will be the key forum for the advancement and assistance in development of Aboriginal environmental management regimes, resource development and traditional knowledge systems.
AELC is the sister organization of the Canadian Aboriginal Minerals Association (CAMA) and was developed based on the need expressed by Aboriginal communities. By establishing meaningful relationships with industry and governments, negotiating practical benefits, and jointly developing project specific environmental practices, Aboriginal communities can advance to environmental leaders and advance economic opportunities.

Aboriginal people are stewards of the land, we strive for the protection of our environment and utilizing our resources sustainably so that they will be available for our future generations. More and more, the world is looking to its Aboriginal people for solutions to the environmental concerns facing present society. The Aboriginal Environmental Leadership Circle motivates, inspires, educates and empowers Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples to ensure that Mother Earth is cared for.
